Most of us know the 6309-7040/7049. But the watch that preceded it was the 6306-7001.
As far as I know,
(and this is only speculation from dealing with and handling many of these divers)
This movement was only put into this case. The movement is different from the 6309 in that it has 21 jewels, and hacks the second hand.
What I`ve been able to piece together is that this was the first watch of its kind, and I belive it was only made in and for Japan. The production of this cal was very short, perhaps only 2-3 years. Shorty thereafter, Seiko changed it to the 6309, and shorty after that, the assembly work was moved to Singapore.
In my mind, the 6306 is technically better, and it is considerably more rare then the 6309.
Of course I cant speculate price differentials between the two, but I would hold the 6306 to a premium.
Cheers,
Randall
