I bought two SKX-173K's (Made in Singapore)in the USA as gifts for other people earlier this year. Out of the box one was -2 sec/day, the other was +24 sec/day. Identical watches.
For myself, I have recently acquired both (Made in Japan) a SKX-007J and a SKX-011J. The 007J runs at +2 sec/day, the 011 at + 20 sec/day. Identical watches (color aside).
I believe that the application of the hour markers and dial finish on the Japan models is much cleaner. I also prefer the sphere opposite the second hand indicator point on the Japan models. I was indifferent to round (Japan) versus square (Singapore made for US market)hour markers. Trying on one of the Singapore models, I found that rubber strap more comfortable than the Japan rubber strap. I also wanted that 011J orange dial!
I think it comes down to your personal preference on the cosmetics. I believe the bezel (and its smooth operation) as well as the case, crown, and crystal are identical no matter where the watch is made. WRT the 7s26 movement, I am not a pro but believe the country manufactured does not matter either. You can see for yourself above that it is luck of the draw on the accuracy.
