my first mechanical wristwatch has arrived...
It's a Seiko SKX007J, from Chronograph.com. I also got an SKX009J too. These are beautiful machines alright. The 007 will be my daily wearer for a while, until my SKXA35 gets here. I'm gonna put the SKXA35 on a 1" waterborne and that will be my daily wearer until it's good and broken in. (I got waterborne's in 4 days from reefscuba.com). The J models are so stunning that it's almost scary to wear them to work (I'm a cop and sometimes my watches get bumped-or worse). I was a little surprised to see that the 007 has the day in arabic & english - I thought it would be spanish & english. I havent even taken the 009 out of the bag yet, that will be some other rainy day project. Having 'grown' somewhat as a watch collector, I am so glad that I discovered the importance of the automatic mechanical movement. I'm even thinking about selling my quartz watches now! I read where others have commented on the brushed finish on the lugs of the Seiko divers, but I think it looks beautiful-a very nice touch. I saw another post where a gent advised a 'newbie' to get an SKX173; he described it as the 'quintessential diver's watch'. I can totally understand that now, these divers are absolutely gorgeous instruments. One question; are the strap bars on these watches the spring-loaded type? I have a small tool for depressing the ends, but I'd like to hear from experienced users before attempting to remove the rubber straps. Sorry for the long-winded babble!
