I really enjoyed your post!!!! I also have the 1000M, however mine is the earlier model about 7YRS old. After reading your post I thought of a little thought I want to share, I wonder if Seiko changed their color scheme on the 600M from a silver/metal color to a goldish color not because the gold was more flashy but maybe because they felt that the gold color actually looks similar to the color on the old hard hat divers helmet. Bronze although darker than the gold used on the 600mQuartz/1000m was used extensively in diving equipment. Just a thought, but kind of neat if this was the case.

P.S. after seven years of daily use (and 150 dives) my bezel does have many scratches but because the numbers are under a layer of acrylic they are readily visible and the 12 position still glows like crazy in the dark.
