Hi,
As you all know my watch collection has been stolen about a month ago. Thanks to all of you I am now able to post this review of the Seiko SKX007J with customized dial, hands and case.
I have not really done a review on a watch. The SKX series have been reviewed here many times.
The inside is the trusty 7S26. On the case back is says Japan. I am happy about that as I think the movement is made in Japan. All other watches I had were made in the Pacific Rim so I will have to see how this one performs, I am sure it will be reliable.
The case is beadblasted. I really like this a lot compared to the one I used to have, the shiny polished one. I think I like it better. It makes the watch look smaller. The shining finish was standing out on my old one, so blasted is more discrete. It "makes me" look, focus, concentrate more on the dial. The inscription on the back with the raised wave is polished, it looks great. One of my coworkers said "it looks cool". Talking to Jack at IWW he said this is their signature. I like it. Excellent work Jack. I can say that the beadblasted case is the "hidden" beauty under the shiny surface. Send you watch to Jack to discover it.
Thanks to Bill Yao, custom dial and hands have been installed. I always wanted sword hands on a watch. Few years ago when Omega Seamaster came out with the full sword hands, I wanted one just for the hands. Now I have one. In fact is even better. The hour hand is perfect. Is just the right size. The minute hand is long and stands out. It needs to be, as this hand is made for a diver. You need to be able to read the elapsed time at a glance in concert with the rotating bezel. The bezel reminds me of my MarineMaster. The font Seiko uses is just right for the hands. The hands are WHITE in daylight and of course GLOW in the dark. The seconds marker moves faithfully along. Is great to watch it. Is not smooth due to lowbeat caliber, it looks like is taking small baby steps.
The dial is just beautiful. The markers look perfect. The 3,6,9 arabic numerals is a nice combination. Is very easy to tell the time. I think is kind of the "SUS" line that Seiko sells. At different angles it looks "deep" like my MarineMaster did. Is like looking into a abyss. It has the effect that the dial is not at the surface, is sunk deep in the watch case. Those who have a MarineMaster can confirm that. I think the glass and the dial helps make this effect. The "T" on the dial looks cool. No markings on the dial is in fact nice. This is the first watch with no markings and I LIKE IT!!! It does not have a date, I got used to it by now. Bill Yao, this is one gorgeous dial. Thank you.
I have been wearing it since Friday. I doubt it will leave my wrist anytime soon. The workmanship and finish of the watch is super. I can tell is not machine made. Like I said before, a watch is a highly personal item. One loves his watch. The only watch that I liked so much was my Alpinist. The new diver is more. It is here due to the good human nature. Is here to stay. I will wear it proud. Thank you.
Best regards,
