The Ugly Duckling
One look at the horrible goopy lume job on this diver and most people wouldn't have given it another glance. Looks like whoever relumed this dial went about it like an overzealous pastry chef decorating a cake.
In addition to adding the thick globs of lume, whoever applied it also painted the hands white (actually, it's kind of an off-white, creamy sort of color). And he didn't do a very good job either. On the bright side, the watch glows like Chernobyl!!
But I think like people, every watch deserves a second chance. This diver is actually a pretty uncommon 7002-700J, a Japan-made version of the 7002 150m diver with a pepsi bezel. When I saw it on ebay, I took a chance and won the auction. After sendiing my money to Thailand (luckily the seller wasn't Sophon) and not hearing anything for a few weeks, I was about to chalk it up as a transaction gone bad. Then the other day it showed up at my door.
Aside from some cosmetic imperfections and a loose bezel, everything about the watch seems to be working OK.
I think this is a job for Jack/IWW. I'm planning to ask them to relume it properly and install a new set of hands. Then it will be a good, permanent member of my 7002 family...
Love all your Seikos!
