Movement Information
I neglected to mention the Seiko Prospex 300m Diver's Professional Quartz is model number 7C46-7011.
The 300m Diver's Professional Quartz, which was introduced this year, is powered by quartz movement 7C46. It has day/date feature, and has 7 jewels.
The movement was created in 1985 for the release the following year of the 1000m Diver's Professional Quartz.
It is a large quartz movement, measuring 28.6X27 3.7t. Two other "7C" movements were released in 1986, one which powers the very large and heavy quartz Railroad pocket watch (7C11), and another (7C17) which drives a large watch for the visually impaired. Both movements have the same specifications as the one in the Professional Diver's Quartz (but no day/date).
The only Seiko quartz movements which are larger are in stopwatches, chronographs, and in the Grand Seiko Quartz models (9F movements are slightly larger, with 9 jewels).
The 7C movement keeps time within +/- 15 seconds per month, and has a 5 year battery.
Since an automatic watch really should be cleaned, with new seals installed, every five years or so, I have no problem with getting a new battery installed within this same time frame.
When we hear the words "quartz watch," we may think of low-quality and cheap plastic watches, or poorly finished metal ones, that we can pick up at a discount store for $10 or $15, or maybe even get free if we join a "book of the month club," etc.
It's my opinion that the quartz movements Seiko has designed and put into their Diver's Professional Series watches are of a different order and are in a different league.
