I choose the big 6105 too...

I like the big case 6105 (over the smaller case version) for the reasons you list. The date only dial is well balanced with the date window appearing to be the '3' marker. The 6105 was probably made over a shorter period of time (1968-1974?) than the 6309, so is probably more rare too.
One waterproofing fix for the 6105 locking crown is to get the Bestfit crown o-ring gasket assortment (previously discussed on this forum) and place two of the smaller sizes on the crown stem so it will seal against the inside of the casetube. This gives a snug feel to the crown operation, after the original crown seal has worn out.
The assortment also includes the correct size for the Seiko 6138 and 6139 chronograph pushers.
