The 6309 can be made water-resist...
The 6309-7049 can certainly be made water resistant suitable for deep water.
There are three gaskets: case back, crystal, and crown.
All three are available; the crystal gasket the more difficult to get. The crystal gasket can sometimes be reused as it is quite large and not normally damaged when disassembling the watch.
The crown gasket is a separately available part, and can be fit in minutes when you know how to disassemble the crown and stem. It's a thick o-ring.
The case back gasket can be replaced with a generic, correct size o-ring, or order the genuine Seiko part.
Basically just order these three gaskets for a 6309-7049 and the parts supplier knows what you want!
By the way, the crystal gasket replacement will require a case press to reinstall the crystal bezel and turning bezel. Unless you have the proper tools, let your watchman do it.
Hope this helps. That 6309 can live and dive forever!
