Seiko Japan's Ikuo Tokunaga joined the company in 1970. He is credited as being the key person in the development of the world's first titanium watch, 1975's 600m Professional Automatic diver watch. He is currently in charge of the development of Seiko chronographs, diver's watches and adventure watches (in other words, of the Prospex division).
According the the most recent issue of "Watch BEAT" magazine (see below), because his "knowledge and collection of these watches has accumulated so much", Tokunaga has begun his own website.
1967's Seiko 6215 caliber 300m Professional diver watch. One of the rarest Seiko watches, it's even hard to find a good image of it. This is one of the best I've seen and can be found on Tokunaga's website. (Note the interesting countdown bezel design which only has minute dots to the 15 minute mark, and original strap which came standard on 1960's version pro diver watches.)
It seems like these watches (I mean current Prospex pro diver watch line) are starting to get a little bit more respect in Japan recently -- no doubt in part because Mr. Tokunaga has begun to give interviews about these special and unique watches in Japanese watch magazines on almost a monthly basis.
Check it out!
Information from: "Watch BEAT; HYPER WATCH & SHOP MAGAZINE, Vol. 2" (Narumido Publishers, Tokyo, Dec. 2002) page 116. ISBNT1108658120565. It is from a new article entitled: "The Secret Story of World-leading Seiko Technology" which centers on the design and development of the "L" gasket.
