Hello Randall, I was very impressed by your postings at the Seiko Diver's Forum in which you described your Project to transplant a 6306 cal. movement into the mint condition case of a 6309 cal.diver.
Also the scans were outstanding and you did descibe the process very clearly.
I owned a 6309-7040. I bought it new in 1979 and owned it for 24 years. In all those years I hardly used it and when I sold it in april 2003, it still was like new without any scratch. The only flaw I remember was in the beginning, just after I bought the watch at my local Jewelry. I noticed that it gained some time,(30 seconds a day).
I went back to the store to let it be adjusted as fine as possible.
Unfortunatley I wasn't satisfied afterall,(now it lost 30 seconds) and went to another salesman who did an exellent job definetley. After this treatement my watch only gained 2-6 seconds a day,(24 hrs). This watch kept outstanding time.
The reason I did wear my 6309 only a few times in 24 years was that it's case was too heavy and large for me. I recently sold it for not much money to someone on the Internet who was looking for this watch for more than a decade.
Last week I read about the rareness of the 6306-7001 diver from Seiko with it's hacked 21 J movement. Mint condition Items seem to do over US$500 I've been told. What's your opinipon about this story?? And do you know what a mint 6309-7040 like I owned will do at an auction or what collectors are willing to pay for this watch?? I'm beginning to believe I sold my 6309 rather cheap. Please, write me your opinion and experiences,I would be very grateful.
With Regards,
Louis.
p.s. I now own a Seiko Kinetic Sports 150 5m23-6B50 sports-diver and a Citizen Promaster automatic Diver with 8203 21 J. Myota movement.
