Preview Pics,the 6309 moter swap.............
Well, the very special 6309 is MINE. I purchashed this 1987 6309 diver because of its near mint conditon,I was also told that it had been recently serviced.
Allthough it didnt look to good on the timing machine,(less than 200 deg. of amplitude)it ran OK for a few weeks,so I thought it might be ok for the time being. Then, after about 3 weeks,it began to lose time, around 30 seconds a day.
I was too find out the problem with a 20X loupe.
In the picture above you can see that the cap jewel was not properly cleaned prior to being oiled. The balance staff end has worn away a nice clear spot in what apears to be a milky filmy area surrounding it.
Above is a better shot, showing the milky haze in a complete circle around the staff end. Again, the black circle directly around the staff pivot,is actualy CLEAN (because of the scrubing action provided by the pivot).
But heres the worst part.
Because of the dirty cap jewel, and obvious over oiling, the fresh oil has crept away from the oil sink, and is running out of the balance jewel assembly (This is called migrating, fresh oil should stay where its put,and not migrate to other areas of the movement). At this point,it is probably fauling the inner coils of the hair spring. And on the lower jewel, its shurly fauling the roler jewel, leading to the loss of amplitude.
So,its to the DONOR pile I go. And find a donor I did.
In a earlier diver,much the same as mine,I found a 6306.
What makes the 6306 so special?
To be contiued....................
Cheers,Randall
