Hold your horses Ken, H`mmmmmmmmmm??!!??,>>>>
Your not asking for much, He, he,:^) <smily face means I`m pulling your chain big guy,
Well, totally night and day difference. Except for the fact they both use a magic lever autowind system, ther are no other parts that would make you think one had anything to do with the other.
The 7s26 does take Seikos Magic lever to a new high. Seiko figured out they did`nt have to use a dedicated winding bridge to locate the lever. Insted, on the 7s26, the lever is located by a brass bushing on one side, and by the rachet wheel on the other. Then Seiko moved the intire keyless works to the back side of the movement, right up against the inside of the bottum plate, or to put it another way, almost viewable with the caseback removed. When Seiko did this, its something that only Seiko could do, and it (to me) screems Seiko inovation. You no longer have to remove the dial and hands to get to these critical components, and they can be serviced without removing the movement from the case. To better understand this, you would have to understand that theres a missing link between these two movements in the 7000 family of movements, where you would see the changes start to take place over several different calibers, such as the 7006,7009, and finally, I belive the 7002.
Its kinda funny, beyound the beat rate that they both share, they have very little in common. The 6309, has 17 jewels, the 7s26,21. The 6309 has a very long PR, almost 50 hrs, the 7s26, 40 hrs, when its running good.
I think as the 7s26 ages, we are going to see the same longivity in it as we see in the 6309, I`m sure we wil be seeing them run for 20 years, witout service, but I think the extra jeweling here may be a hinderence to that, only time will tell.
Well, I`m not sure if I made it clear enough. Both are bullet proff movements, that seiko has designed with longivety in mind, but apart from that, I cant tell you enough how different they are. They probably have the same accuracy potential in the hands of a good watchtweeker, the 7s26 will have just a bit of an advantage with out that tweeking due to the extra jewels I think.
I`ll include some scans for a visual point of reference.
Here is a 6306 with the roter removed.
And heres a 7s26 with the roter removed.
Too sum up my thoughts on this comparison. I cant, in all honesty, say one is better than the other. Like wise, I cant sat one is worst than the other. They both do what they do, and can do it quite well.
Cheers,
Randall
