What was your first Seiko, and why?.............>>>>>>>>
I was thinking last night about how I first learned about Seiko, and what led me to buy my first (a 7002-7009).
My father owned a Seiko automatic (I don't remember the model, as it is in storage in Alaska), and I will always remeber being a kid and being fasinated by it. His Seiko was tough as hell (he was an Air Force civil engineer, and it went all over the world). It went through quite a lot. Fishing for salmon, moose hunting, you name it, as he was an avid outdoorsman. He wore his for 17 years, and he only stopped wearing it after the day wheel stopped working. He then bought a Seiko quartz because it had an alarm, and it was good for camping (got get up early to get those fish).
My grandfather had a Seiko too (6106-7769), but I don't know much of history behind it (I just remember him wearing it when I was younger). Sadly both of them have passed on, but I luckily have inherited their watches (good memories) and they made up the beginning of my slowly growing collection.
It's nice that I have these ties to them.
My dad's recommendations led me to buy my Seiko back in 1992. It was the first thing of real 'worth' that I actually hunted and saved for. It has given me 11 years of faithful service, and built an undying respect for the brand name. My collecting has given me a way to fulfill a desire to tie into my past, and build something that someday I hope to pass on to my son, or daughter.
I'm very greatful for all the help that the members of this site have given me. I have a lot gratitude to the wealth of knowledge based here, and hope that I can contribute more to it in some small way in the future.
Thanks everyone, and Happy Hunting!
