Your comments are spot on, Tolley, and very interesting to me. Things have changed in Japan in recent years, but they haven't changed THAT much.
A good example is the dress code. Almost all business men all wear long sleeve white dress shirts to work until around June 1st, when suddenly one day everyone enmasse changes to short sleeve white shirts! It doesn't matter how hot it gets in May, one doesn't wear a short sleeve shirt until everyone does. It really amazed me when I first began living here, but now it seems "normal" to me. Well, things are loosening up a bit. I wonder what Seiya-san would say?
I know from personal experience the "shoe" thing is true. Regarding watches the top dogs wore in the '60's and '70's, you can bet they were mostly chronometer grade Seiko and Citizens (I believe Omegas were the most popular Swiss ones with the big wigs then).
