It gives me a whole new appreciation for my 6138B. I had forgotten the days when the exchange rate exceeded 300 yen to the dollar. Your post brought back memories of shopping in Japan at the time which was a bargain hunters' paradise.

Now if memory serves, in 1975-76 when I bought my 6138-3009 new it retailed for something in the neighborhood of $295. I bought it through my ship's store as a special order item and paid somewhere just over $100. At the time I was a mustang Ensign making $10,234/yr. So in terms of what your freshman Japanese had to pay, I indeed got a bargain!
