In my post I mentioned how the 6159 caliber 300m professional diver cost almost exactly the same in real terms in 1968 as a MarineMaster 300m pro auto does now.
I also mentioned that Japanese have to pay a similar percentage of their monthly salary currently for a brand new FlightMaster chronograph as what percentage of salary it took them to buy a 6138 mechanical chronograph cost in 1970.
An even better example I should have used is the current mechanical Credor chronographs (why do I always forget about those?). For example, the one in the scan below retails for 200,000 yen, and the average freshman's monthly salary is almost exactly the same.
The cost of a brand new 6138B in 1970 and the cost of a brand new Credor Phoenix chronograph automatic today like the one above takes almost exactly the same percentage of a Japanese person's salary to purchase.
