I was told by more than one watch repair person over the years to NOT GO INTO this watch as long as possible.
Down here on the coast, these watches sold pretty well and the repair guys in the area saw them. Several of the people I spoke to, including my original dealer's repair guy who sold me the watch, said that many times the watch would actually do worse after opened and few have the real capability to seal it correctly.
You have to remember, this is PRE-INTERNET forum banter when THIS is what you had to go on. Frankly, it made sense to me too at the time as my watch did PERFECTLY until the last few years. IT kept GREAT time until then but has gradually gotten worse as noted above.
A bit surprised by the over-stated "it died a thousand deaths" comment as if this is the case, then it is saying far less about a SEIKO than I would believe.
Half the post above was paying tribute to an amazing watch, this coming from someone that does not collect watches or trade them off for evening use. This watch has literally been my only watch for 22 years and has seen half my life.
