I fired off an email inquiry to Randall with an included pic of the evidence. Have not heard back yet but I imagine he let out an audible groan after glancing at the shot.
After reading some of the responses here as well as glancing at re-living my own and pondering a bit, I was wondering if getting a complete makeover was such a great idea. On the surface, it sounds very appropriate and a great option. But the more I thought if the history behind this watch, the more I wondered if staring at a brand new dial, bezel, hands, etc was the right answer after all. In a way, it is like getting rid of the evident history and life surrounding the watch. Sure, this is a bit of a romanticized notion, but it came to me for some reason.
I suppose to some, it is much like a fine sports car, where you want to bring it back to its former glory. On the other hand, part of the character and nature of this watch is its current nature and condition, bezel and all.
I tend to agree that a new watch is probably in order but I do admit the SKX-007 just doesnt have the same character in the face/dial and the body. I like the second hand on the American version but the dial of the Euro. In addition, it appears as if the origin of the SKX-007 series is up for debate, as no one seems to know exactly WHERE it's made.
As for the idea there may be dirt in this watch, it's possible but I was almost RELIGIOUS about keeping the winder TIGHTLY sealed and almost never needed to adjust this watch. I cant imagine much making it way in. It has never leaked or had a single problem, bar none.
I wonder if the new Seiko's have the same build quality as the older models. I know the American version lack the character in my opinion.
Again, thanks for the responses. Enjoy reading them.
