What a load of old rubbish......
Permeable seals and other guesswork theories can tend to get known as gospel when promoted around the net.
Surely we should only write about stuff we know about?
Petes description was of course correct and a HRV is only of use if you live in helium rich environment in a diving bell when the phenomenon was first noticed when the crystals popped off of the Rolex Subs the Comex divers were using.
Rolex invented the HRV to combat that on what later became known as the Sea Dweller watch.
The HRV is automatic on the Sea Dweller so no thought needs to be used. If you were living in a diving bell with an MM then you would have to unscrew the crown periodically to release the helium build up.
Cheers,
Neil.
