Pretty sure the technology is to keep helium out..
In an interview Tokunaga said divers in decompression chambers were having thier
watches break, so they designed a way to keep the helium out to miniscule amounts.
I don't remember my 300m tuna instructions
saying anything about having to open the crown to release Helium,
because it's not necessary, there's not enough helium in the watch that needs to
be let out.
A simple reading of the instructions for all the "professional " watches is all
that is needed.
